Salik is Dubai's automated electronic toll system. Unlike other countries, there are no toll booths, no stopping, and no cash payments on the road. Everything is digital.
How It Works for Renters
Every rental car in Dubai is equipped with a Salik tag (RFID sticker) on the windshield. When you pass under a Salik gate:
- The system scans the tag.
- The toll is deducted from the rental company's account.
- The rental company adds this charge to your final bill.
Cost: The standard government fee is 4 AED per pass. Rental companies typically charge 5 AED or slightly more to cover administrative costs.
Where are the Salik Gates?
There are currently 8 operational Salik gates in Dubai. Knowing them can help you plan your route.

- 🌉 Al Maktoum Bridge (Free 10pm-6am & Sundays)
- 🛣️ Al Barsha (Sheikh Zayed Road)
- 🛣️ Al Safa (Sheikh Zayed Road)
- 🛣️ Al Mamzar South
- 🛣️ Al Mamzar North
- ✈️ Airport Tunnel

Common Questions
Is there a daily cap?
No. If you pass through 10 gates in a day, you will be charged for 10 passes. However, Al Mamzar North and South have a rule: if you pass both within one hour in the same direction, you are only charged once.
Can I avoid them?
Yes, you can set your GPS to "Avoid Tolls". However, this often means taking slower routes with more traffic lights. For a stress-free holiday, we recommend budgeting for Salik and taking the fastest route.
