Parking in Dubai is well-regulated and generally plentiful, but understanding the zones and payment methods is key to avoiding fines.
Public Parking Zones
RTA (Roads and Transport Authority) parking is divided into zones, identified by orange signs.
| Zone Category | Typical Cost (AED) | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial (A, B) | 4 AED / hour | Busy business districts. Short-term parking. |
| Non-Commercial (C, D) | 2 AED / hour | Residential areas. Cheaper rates. |
| Special Areas (E, F, G) | Varies | Waterfronts, museums, etc. |
Note: Parking is generally free on Sundays and Public Holidays. Always check the sign!
How to Pay
Gone are the days of hunting for coins. You have three easy ways to pay:
1. WhatsApp / SMS
Send a message to 7275 (PARK) format: [Plate] [Zone] [Hours]
2. RTA App
The best method. It auto-detects your location and sends reminders before expiry.
3. Parking Machines
Accepts coins (1 AED, 50 fils) and Nol cards. Place the ticket on your dashboard.
Mall Parking
Most malls (Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates) offer generous free parking:
- Weekdays: Usually free for 3-4 hours.
- Weekends: Often free all day.
- Validation: Cinema or ski tickets can validate extra hours.
Common Fines to Avoid
- Unpaid Parking: 150 AED fine.
- Blocking Traffic: 200 AED fine.
- Parking in Disabled Spots (without permit): 1000 AED fine.
